Jade Coast Background

Founded in 2017, Jade Coast Organics is committed to cultivating high-quality cannabis. Its name draws inspiration from the jade that washes up on the California coast, symbolizing its commitment to the local community and environment.

Scott Eaton’s journey in cannabis cultivation began over a decade ago. His passion for the plant and dedication to quality led him to his current role as Cultivation Manager at Jade Coast Organics, where he oversees the commercial growth of thousands of plants.

Navigating Industry Challenges

The cannabis industry has faced significant hurdles in recent years, with plummeting prices and fierce competition. Scott candidly shared that cultivating cannabis isn’t the same as it used to be.  Jade Coast needed to find ways to boost efficiency without compromising its commitment to quality.

Trym: A Game-Changing Solution

To address these challenges, Jade Coast Organics turned to Trym’s comprehensive cultivation software. They implemented several key features:

  1. Touchless Harvesting
  2. Task Management
  3. Grow Log
  4. Environmental Sensors
  5. Workflow Management

The impact of these tools on Jade Coast’s operations has been nothing short of transformative.

Remarkable Results

“When I first started at Jade Coast Farms, we had a team of 9 cultivators. We now produce nearly double what we used to produce with a team of 4.”

Dramatic Labor Cost Reduction: “We lowered our labor costs by 50 to 60%,” Scott reports. The Touchless Harvesting feature played a pivotal role, allowing Jade Coast to streamline its harvesting process significantly. “When I first started at Jade Coast Farms, we had a team of 9 cultivators. We now produce nearly double what we used to produce with a team of 4,” Scott explains.

Increased Yield: Since adopting Trym, Jade Coast has seen a remarkable 15% increase in yield. Scott attributes this impressive growth to improved task management and the ability to quickly identify and address issues through regular use of Trym’s Grow Log.

Improved Consistency: Standardized workflows through Trym have been a game-changer for Jade Coast. Scott emphasizes, “Consistency is key in cultivation” The facility’s improved consistency has led to more predictable outcomes and higher-quality products.

Enhanced Root Health: Jade Coast purchased wireless root zone sensors from Trym and coupled environmental data with the Grow Log.  With this new hardware and software setup, Jade Coast identified and resolved a recurring root health issue. Scott elaborates, “We could pinpoint exactly when and why our roots were struggling and make the necessary adjustments. Now, our plants are healthier throughout their entire life cycle.” Jade Coast is now looking to implement sensors throughout the rest of its facility.

Efficient Pest Management: Trym’s task management and Grow Log have revolutionized Jade Coast’s Integrated Pest Management (IPM) plan. “We can now track every application, monitor its effectiveness, and adjust our strategy in real-time,” Scott notes.

Key Features Highlight

Grow Log: Scott can’t say enough about it: “The Grow Log allows us to keep track of vital information such as issues with plants, measurements, plant work completed, etc., so the whole company can see the status of each and every room.”

Task Management: This feature has been crucial for Scott’s management style. “Even when I’m not on-site, I can deploy tasks to my team and ensure everything runs smoothly. It’s like being in multiple places at once,” he says.

Workflow Management: Scott has integrated Jade Coast’s entire cultivation SOP into Trym’s workflow feature. “This ensures that every cycle is consistent, from seedling to harvest. It’s taken the guesswork out of our processes,” he notes.

Environmental Sensors: These sensors have revolutionized Jade Coast’s irrigation strategies. Scott praises the Teros 12 sensors: “They are incredible to help us steer the crops with our irrigation strategies. For instance, if our plants are smaller and need to stretch more, we can focus on steering generatively. And when we need them to stop their stretch, we can adjust irrigation to keep the media higher in water content to really slow them down.”
